Female

Winnipeg East Female Hockey is looking for volunteers

Winnipeg East Female Hockey is a joint association between TMHA and SBMHA, which means that it's important that Transcona is represented on the board. If you are interested in being part of the female hockey community, please contact Kerry Starkell, Director - Female Hockey, TMHA.

Girls’ hockey in Transcona? Yes!

If you have a daughter interested in playing hockey, you should know about the Stars female hockey program.

For girls aged 5-17, the Stars program is hosted by Winnipeg East Female Hockey, a partnership between Transcona Minor Hockey Association and St. Boniface Minor Hockey Association. We host teams at the A level (Stars) and AA level (Saints). Girls’ teams are double-aged, from U9 to U18.

At U7 (5-6 year olds), girls can opt to play Shooting Stars, the female equivalent to Timbits hockey. This Initiation-level program follows Hockey Canada’s cross-ice program where the focus is on basic skills and we make every effort to have female coaches on the ice and helping out, including girls who play AA.

Every year, new players join from boys’ hockey, ringette or as new players trying hockey for the first time. In 2020-21, we anticipate more than 200 girls will be playing Stars & Saints hockey!

Beyond the obvious physical benefits, girls’ hockey offers important social benefits to players at all ages and skill levels. New friendships, teamwork and camaraderie are all part of the girls’ hockey experience.

For more information, contact Kerry Starkell, TMHA’s Director of Female Hockey and Vice-Chair of Winnipeg East Female Hockey at wefhvicechair@gmail.com. You can also visit www.wefh.ca.

 See you at the rink!
